Are Modular Skyscrapers the future of construction?
In the future, most construction for high rise buildings may take place in factories
A company in China has begun making buildings in modular sections, and is able to assemble tall buildings in record time, including elevators. Modular buildings are made almost entirely in factories and then assembled on the job site, in a way that is far more environmentally friendly, much faster, and significantly cheaper than the standard construction technique that involves assembling the entire building on site. Most significantly, the creator of modular buildings expects to build an entire 220 story skyscraper in 7 months just to prove the concept of these buildings. Should modular skyscraper construction become commercially popular, it is possible that your city's next landmark may be built in China and shipped by rail and truck to the construction site. Likewise, it may be that skyscraper factories may become commonplace in the United States and other companies, since modular construction is cheaper, uses fewer resources, and causes less inconvenience (think road closures and noise) than the current technique which has been the same since the first caveman decided to strike out and put a few logs together.
